I think that's an amazing piece, it really has a very dense atmosphere, that immediately grabs the viewer. The muted colours and the sense of scale definitely add to that. I just feel like the piece pulls me right in. Two minor nitpicks...the image seems a bit as if you placed one "unit" of each rock, figure, cliff and tree... and especially that tree on the left stands out to me as kind of solitary. I think it just feels a bit like a pattern, maybe adding a small group of other trees on the left would help that. I do notice that there are some subtle trees at the bottom of the right cliff, but yeah, the left one just seems a bit singular. Compositionally though it is really well placed, I definitely enjoy that. And secondly you made a really nice use of textures and stock photos all throughout the piece...they do look noticably as such, but that isn't necessarily bad here, because they are all so nicely subdued and tied into the piece. However that makes the foreground cliff in the very left really stand out, because that's just a few quick brushstrokes without any detail. It's not the focus, but I think it looks a bit too different from the rest of the piece.
God, I can't believe how nitpicky I am about a piece so wonderful In all seriousness, despite those tiny critiques, I love it! Great work!
Thanks Daniel.. I appreciate the critique very much. It's great to get some good feedback from someone who does such beautiful work. Especially someone whose matt paintings and landscapes are outstanding. I really want to work on my environments as that is my weakness at the moment. Thanks again man. T
Your wonderful work has been selected for the Aus-Art Featured Gallery. Congratulations!!!
